Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has ordered flags to be flown at half staff from sun-up to sun-down on Saturday, March 31 in honor of Sgt. Jamie D. Jarboe, who died on March 21, 2012 in Topeka from injuries sustained in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
“I would like to offer my deepest condolence to Sergeant Jarboe’s wife Melissa, and to his entire family. His courage and his will during his convalescence made a deep impact on the community of Topeka and the entire state of Kansas. His sacrifice will never be forgotten,” said Governor Brownback.
Jarboe, a native of Indiana, was assigned to A Troop, 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley. According to initial reports, Jarboe died of injuries sustained on April 10, 2011, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, from small arms fire.
A funeral service will be held 10 am Saturday, March 31st at Topeka's Capitol Plaza.
The Sgt. Jamie Jarboe Memorial Fund is set up at Quest Credit Union, 610 SW 10th St. in Topeka.
