A southwest Missouri solder who died last week in Iraq is being buried Saturday in Springfield.
Sgt. Paul Faris Brooks of Carl Junction was injured May 21 when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on patrol near Baghdad. The 34-year-old Brooks was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq since joining the Missouri National Guard in July 2004.
He will be buried in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, where his 935th Aviation Support Battalion is stationed.
Besides a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, Brooks will be posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.
