Year-Old Crime Stoppers Tip Leads To Drug Arrest

Thursday, January 24, 2013

An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers in January, 2012 resulted in the arrest of one person and the seizure of drugs, cash weapons and other stolen property.

A tip received on the Crime Stoppers website indicated that a man in his 50s was delivering drugs around the neighborhood out of a residence in the 1700 block of North Custer.

“Once we received the tip, Crime Stoppers immediately notified the Wichita Police Patrol South SCAT team which initiated an investigation,” said Crime Stoppers Executive Director Gordon Bassham.

When police officers entered the home with a search warrant last Saturday, nearly one year to the day from the date of the original tip, they arrested a man and recovered marijuana, crack cocaine, heroin, numerous different prescription medicines, drug paraphernalia, cash and weapons.

In addition, they seized prescription drug pads from a medical facility outside of Wichita.

The man was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of crack cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, no tax stamp, criminal possession of firearms, and possession of narcotics.

A woman who was also in the home was searched and released.
