Winfield Man Dies In Oklahoma Accident

A Winfield man is dead following an accident over the weekend in northern Oklahoma.

It happened at 8 a.m. Saturday on state highway 11 about 4 miles north of Ponca City.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a westbound Ford F150 crossed the center line into the path of an eastbound semi truck. The driver of the semi veered to the right right trying to avoid a collision, but was still struck.

The pickup rolled twice and caught fire. The driver, 21-year-old Matthew McLaughlin of Winfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Justin Smith, 19, was taken to a Ponca City hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The 58-year-old driver of the semi truck suffered minor injuries.
