Circle High School received a new wind turbine on Monday as part of Kansas State University's Kansas Wind for Schools program. The turbine was installed near the sports complex and will help supply energy to the concession stand.

Sara Jones, energy manager for USD 375, says that the turbine will be incorporated into the science curriculum at Circle High. The turbine will be a useful tool for students to be able to graph and track in math and science.

The turbine will help supply about 300-400 kilowatt hours per month or more than half the energy to power an average American home.

Zoning for the area was changed so the school can add a bigger turbine in the future.

Westar Energy's Green Team helped install the turbine at Circle High in addition to ones in Walton and Brookville in 2008, Pretty Prairie and Randolph in 2009, Topeka and Lindsborg in 2010 and Meriden and Eudora in 2011.
