Wichita Police say a new e-citation program will allow officers to write 1,700 more tickets each year.
The Wichita city council approved a contract for the electronic ticketing program Tuesday. Police Captain Darrell Atteberry said the program will allow officers to write tickets quicker and get back on the road for other calls. He also told the council the program would save the city $1 million over a five year period.
Each year, there is a 3.5% error rate in handwritten tickets due to poor handwriting. Atteberry says with the electronic system, those errors will be eliminated.
The e-citiatation system is expected to be in place before the end of the year.
