UPDATE: Saturday, August 4, 2012
A service dog taken from a wounded veteran has been been killed on a local highway.
The Doberman, Red, was reportedly taken from car wash near 61st St. and Hydraulic in Park City around 9 p.m. Friday.
Dispatchers say Ryan Newell, a double-amputee, was washing his car when two people took Red and drove off.
Officers were called to the Applebee's, 996 E Connolly Ct., around 10:30 p.m. to a report of a Doberman in the area.
The search for the missing dog was called off about 30 minutes later. Initial reports Friday night said the dog was reunited with his owner, but we later learned from authorities that he was hit and killed by a passing car on I-135.
Park City police are searching for suspects.
