Syrian state TV is blaming "terrorists" for today's explosions at security compounds in the city of Aleppo. State media say 28 people died and 175 others were hurt.

State TV says today's explosions are proof that the government is facing a violent enemy. But anti-Assad activists accuse the regime of setting off today's explosions to discredit the opposition and to avert protests that had been planned in the northern city today.

The offensive continued today, as soldiers who have been bombarding the city for the past six days made their first ground move to seize one of the most restive neighborhoods
