Icy Roads Causing Accidents In Kansas

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

If you are driving in Kansas today you could be driving on slick roads.

Many highways in the state are snowpacked and icy this morning after a winter storm hit.

Wichita received a dusting of snow and roads are slick in spots. Crews have been out since early this morning treating the impacted areas.

Emergency crews responded to a series of injury accidents on I-135 near 61st North after 6:00 a.m. In one accident an SUV hit the guardrail then overturned several times before landing on its wheels.

Other accidents were reported on K-96 and Webb Road and K-96 near 295th Street West.

North Central Kansas received four to six inches of snow. A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Northeast Kansas this morning.

The Kansas Department of Transportation said I-135 is snowpacked from McPherson north through Salina. I-70 is snowpacked from Hays to Topeka. US-50 is snowpacked from Newton to Emporia.
