A motorcycle rider is recovering after striking a deer in Reno County. It happened just before 7 p.m. on West 4th Avenue just east of Sylvia Road.
Officials say Roy Dandy, 39, of Great Bend, was riding his motorcycle westbound on 4th Avenue when a deer ran out onto the road in front of him. Dandy tried to stop but struck the deer and laid the bike on its side. The collision forced the front fender of the bike into the tire, causing it to lock.
Dandy suffered multiple injuries and was taken by helicopter to a Wichita hospital for treatment. The accident is under investigation.
