Results show that Marc Bennett is the Republican nominee for District Attorney in the 18th District.
"I'm humbled. I'm profoundly moved by this experience and I'm ready to serve," Bennett told his supporters as he thanked the large crowd that gathered at his watch party this evening.
After a long night of waiting for the results, former deputy District Attorney Kevin O'Connor conceded the race to his opponent.
"This warms my heart," O'Connor said. "We are not defeated. My family has overcome cancer and we will overcome this."
The final unofficial tally gave Bennett 55% of the vote to O'Connor's 45%. Votes for Bennett totaled 21,590 to 18,232 for O'Connor.
There are no democratic candidates for District Attorney, so the winner of the GOP primary will likely replace Nola Foulston. Foulston has served as District Attorney since 1988.
The new D.A. will take office in January.
