Wichita police said an elderly moped rider failed to notice a stopped car, causing a deadly accident.

It happened near 21st and West St. Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said Guy Rhodes, 84, was riding his moped, but failed to stop or slow down for a car trying to make a left turn. Rhodes hit the back of the car, and the moped fell on top of him.

Investigators said he was wearing a helmet.

A moped rider has died from injuries after an accident in northwest Wichita.

It happened near 21st and McComas around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Police said an 84-year-old man was riding his moped, when he failed to stop and crashed into the back of car.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. No one else was hurt.

Officials blocked traffic in the area for about an hour to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
