A man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on a busy highway in Cowley County.
Around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews were called to the south Summit Street Bridge on U.S. 77, south of Arkansas City, after a pickup hit a pedestrian.
According to the Cowley County Sheriff department, the pickup was traveling north on highway 77 entering Arkansas City, and started to slow. As it approached the bridge, the pickup hit the man who was in the road.
Sheriff deputies could not comment as to if alcohol played a part in the accident.
The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, and then later airlifted to a Wichita hospital.
