A man accused in the 2003 death of a Sedgwick County woman who investigators originally thought died accidentally is back in Sedgwick County to face charges.

Daniel Perez, 52, made a court appearance by video this afternoon. He was charged with first degree murder in the 2003 death of Patricia Hughes.

Investigators initially thought Hughes died accidentally after hitting her head and falling into a pool at a home near 95th Street North and Oliver.

Perez was charged with 38 counts total, including counts of rape, sodomy and exploitation of a child. Perez leaned on a podium and stared straight ahead as a judge read charges against him.

Court records show Perez, who also went by the name of Lou Castro, and Hughes lived in an area that's been described as a compound on North Oliver.

Perez' bond is set at 2 million dollars. His preliminary hearing is set for February 2nd.
