New Details In West Wichita Stabbing

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Wichita Police have released new details in a stabbing in West Wichita early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Bart Brunscheen says the 34 year-old man who was stabbed with a banister is now in stable condition after the incident in the 300 block of North Edwards that happened shortly before 2 o'clock. Brunscheen says a man and woman were drinking with a friend when the man thought the other was making sexual advances towards his girlfriend.

The two began fighting and the friend pulled out a gun. A shot was fired, but no one was struck.

During the struggle, the 34 year-old man with the gun was stabbed with a piece of banister and with a knife.

Police are still waiting to talk to the man who is hospitalized. So far, no charges have been filed in the case.

A 34-year-old man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition early Saturday morning after police say he was stabbed with a stair banister during a fight in west Wichita.

It happened about 1:45 a.m. in the 300 block of North Edwards.

Wichita Police Sgt. Jim Merrick said two men who had been drinking Friday night began arguing. The argument escalated into a fight and the victim was stabbed with the wooden banister. Merrick said a gun was also fired during the fight, but nobody was shot.

The victim went to a neighboring house for help and that's when someone called 911, Merrick said.

A man in his 20s is in custody. A third person -- a woman -- was also in the home when the fight started.
