A suspected car thief is barricaded in a Southwest Hutchinson home following a police pursuit.
Hutchinson Police Captain Troy Hoover said that 30-year-old Justin Lee Wolke was violating his parole while in Hutchinson. Wolke is on parole for aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Wednesday afternoon, police in Hutchinson tried to stop a car that had been reported stolen out of Wichita.
The driver sped away, but later bailed out in the area of 9th and Monroe. He then ran inside a nearby home in the 800 block of North Monroe.
Two people who were inside the home and acquaintances of Wolke, made it out safely, but police say the man is barricaded in their basement.
Police believe the man is armed, and are trying to get him to surrender.
Detectives have made contact with Wolke via a cell phone. He has requested a pack of cigarettes but has not surrendered.
About a mile radius from the home has been blocked off to traffic and residents in the area are asked to stay indoors.
The nearby Allen Magnet School was on lock down for about two hours this afternoon and parents were asked to pick up their kids at the north entrance of the school.
