An earthquake has knocked items off shelves in homes around Anchorage, Alaska, but there are no immediate reports of injuries.
The magnitude 5.8 earthquake happened at about 4:45 p.m. Monday. The temblor was centered about 25 miles northwest of Anchorage.
Guy Urban, a geophysicist at the Alaska and West Coast Tsunami Warning Center, say the quake is not expected to generate a tsunami, but it was widely felt throughout much of south-central Alaska.
John Owens, who lives in East Anchorage, said he felt the rumblings at his house for about 30 seconds. He says, "That was a tumbler, man."
