The middle school and high school in Halstead were placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a man allegedly pulled a gun on his wife and told police he wanted to see his daughter at the middle school.
Halstead Police Chief Steve Lewis tells KAKE News that a man in his 50s reportedly pulled a gun on his wife around 9:15 a.m. in the 500 block of College Street, just west of the schools, and then left the scene.
After police contacted him by phone, the man told them he wanted to see his daughter at the middle school. Both the middle and high schools were placed on lockdown from around 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lewis says the man drove to the Halstead police station and turned himself in without incident. He is being held on aggravated assault charges. A handgun was also recovered.
