The former owner of a Wichita home health care company has been sentenced after pleading guilty to filing false tax returns.
A judge sentenced 68-year-old Gerard Lessard to six months of community confinement to be followed by six months of in-home detention with electronic monitoring.
Lessard and his wife, Betty Lessard, had owned ProActive Heath Care, a business that court documents indicate received more money from Kansas Medicaid than any competitor.
The Lessards pleaded guilty that in 2005, they filed a joint federal tax return that failed to include almost $900,000 in other income.
In addition to confinement, Lessard has been ordered to pay almost $700,000 in restitution and has been banned from doing business with Medicare.
Betty Lessard is scheduled to be sentenced on December 3rd.
