Gov. Sam Brownback has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day.
National Peace Officers Memorial Day was established in 1961 to recognize local, state and federal law enforcement and peace officials.
Brownback said that public safety officials deserve respect and recognition.
"They do difficult jobs in often dangerous circumstances, and some have made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities," Brownback said.
