A fire broke out at the Westar Energy plant in Colwich about 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Westar spokesman Nicholas Bundy says the fire started in a malfunctioning transformer, which ignited 15,000 gallons of mineral oil inside.
At one point, flames up to 70 feet high were burning at the plant. A request was made for 2 thousand gallons of foam from McConnell Air Force Base to help fight the fire.
The fire caused some power outages, but most have been restored. No injuries were reported.
Look for updates throughout the day.
