Visitors to the newly-opened Skelley Elementary School in El Dorado have to be buzzed in.
It was a security feature added to schools as part of a plan by the district that began before the tragedy at Sandy Hook in Connecticut. In light of the shootings, the Holly Frontier Refinery in El Dorado has donated $10,000 to the El Dorado district in memory of the Sandy Hook students and teachers who were killed.
El Dorado School Superintendent Sue Givens says the district was already enhancing security here long before the Sandy Hook shootings but says the $10,000 dollar gift from Holly Frontier will help the district enhance security even more.
"That really gives us a leg up on some of those things that we hope to accomplish or to enhance."
Givens says the gift is a very welcome surprise.
