Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004 -- A Fort Hood soldier from Kansas is killed in action over the weekend in Iraq.
The Army today confirms Second Lieutenant James Michael Goins of Bonner Springs, Kansas, died when his tank was fired on Sunday in Najaf. Goins was 23.
He was assigned to Fort Hood's First Cavalry Division.
Goins graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1999. He attended Kansas State University where he entered the ROTC and graduated ROTC valedictorian in 2003.
