July 6 - The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Sumner County Sheriff's department are investigating the suspicious death of a man who was hit by a train.

The body was found Monday along the train tracks in Sumner County near Milan.

The sheriff's department issued a release saying it is withholding the name of the victim until a positive identification can be made. But KAKE News has learned a tentative identification has been made. That possible victim was an 18-year-old Argonia man.

It was Monday evening when Argonia teenagers first heard news one of their friends and classmates was believed to be the victim in a suspicious train accident.

Eighteen-year-old Jake Allen just graduated from Argonia High School this year. He was valedictorian and a standout athlete in football and basketball.

Investigators won't confirm Allen's identity until positive identification is made through the Forensic Science Center in Wichita. That could come later this week. But Jake's friends and family were told investigators believe it was Allen who was struck by a train in the early morning hours of July 5.

It happened at a railroad crossing just west of Milan in the 100 block of South Bluff Road.

Investigators continue to interview those who knew Allen, trying to figure out why he might have been out there and what he might have been doing. Tuesday, Allen's friends gathered at an Argonia church to meet with counselors to help them deal with the news.
