Greensburg's efforts to use environmentally friendly methods to rebuild from the May 2007 tornado have reached into the new city hall.

On Thursday, solar-powered LED lights that will illuminate city hall's new sign were installed.

The lights and solar equipment are powered by flexible solar panels that don't require full sun and don't have to be tilted at a certain angle.

Curtis Shaddox, president of the Kansas City-based Sunflower Sign, says the solar panels are a relatively new technology that is starting to replace older designs.

The sign was scheduled to be delivered to Greensburg Friday, but it won't be installed until warmer weather allows the concrete base to be poured.
