Brenda Wickham likes to draw. so she made a comic book series along the lines of cartoon character Captain Underpants for her 6th grade class.

"It's pretty much a joke and there were bad guys in each one and I made some classmates of mine and I'd put them as bad guys," said Brenda Wickham.

But school officials weren't amused. When a teacher confiscated some of the books she was sent to the principals office.

"She took me to her office and told me it was like the most horrible thing she had ever seen and I shouldn't use my talent for it."

The superintendent tells us the images involved three students and two teachers in a way he described as humiliating. He says it was both the school resource officer and the principals decision to suspend Brenda.

The school suspended her for three days for inappropriate behavior, obscene language and sexual harassment. The principal also warned the school could choose to file criminal charges and place her on a sexual predator list for the rest of her life. Brenda admits she did make fun of students and called some gay in her comic books. But she says she didn't know it was sexual harassment or that it was offensive.

"I wouldn't have made them if I had known and they didn't seem to be offending anyone that I was making fun of," says Brenda.

"I thought they were funny. she was just joking around and I told the principal if I thought they were going to hurt anybody I would have had her get rid of them right away," says Myra Hilmer, Brenda's mom.

Her whole family is now hoping a few drawings won't have a permanent impact on Brenda's life.
