It may be the last year for one of Wichita's longest-running and well known holiday light displays. Mary Ann and Harry Gust have owned the Wey Mansion at 17th and Park Place since 1981.

Each year, they spend hundreds of hours putting up thousands of Christmas lights. They estimate 800-to-1,000 people show up every Thanksgiving to watch them flip the switch for the first time.

"We've been here 28 years and it's going to be sad, but it's time," said Marry Ann Gust. "It's just not Christmas for us without it. We're going to miss it, but it's a lot of work."

The Gusts have built up one of Wichita's most popular Christmas light displays at their home in the 1700 block of North Park Place. But as the aging couple continues to grow older, they say it's time to move on.

The Gusts say they try to introduce something new into the display every year. This year, the entire display is lit with LED lights. Watching the children's faces light up with the lights is something they cherish.

"We hope the next homeowner will be as enthusiastic about Christmas as we are," said Mary Ann. "We've had kids come by that now have their own children. They tell us they're parents used to bring them here and that makes us think 'Wow, we've really been doing this a long time.'"
