April 27--Sedgwick County Zoo officials discovered this morning that two scarlet macaws - one named "Mac" and one named "Cheese" - were missing from the Zoo's Jungle Building following an apparent break-in to the building. Zoo officials are currently working with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department who is investigating this incident that is believed to have occurred between 11 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. early Friday morning.
Photos of both birds can be seen below.
If you know anything about these missing birds please contact Zoo officials immediately at 316-266-8280 or the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.
Obviously, the Zoo staff is very concerned about the birds. These birds are fed a highly specialized diet and are very social animals. Being alone and away from its familiar environment at the Zoo could be detrimental to the bird's health and well-being.
