Wichita school board members unanimously voted Monday to approve a new elementary school for south Wichita.

The new school will be built on the same site as Lewis Open Magnet Elementary school which is located at 3030 South Osage Street. No name has been decided for the new school yet, but both schools will remain autonomous and schools will attend class in separate buildings.

Plans for the two schools are to build a campus-like facility where students from kindergarten through fifth grades will share common spaces including the cafeteria, library and multipurpose room.

Bond money approved last fall will pay for the new addition.

The board also approved a construction contract for Clark Elementary School. The winning bid came in nearly $158 thousand dollars under the project's budget.
