3-30-07 - A 38-year-old man was killed in a car accident at 12:45 Friday afternoon in the 3400 block of North Arkansas. It happened a short time after the man was involved in a hit and run accident.

Police say the driver of a 1991 Buick Regal was involved in a non-injury hit-and-run at 29th Street North and Arkansas. After striking the other vehicle while driving on private property, he backed his vehicle into a utility pole, then left northbound on Arkansas at a high rate of speed.
When he attempted to pass another northbound vehicle on Arkansas, he struck head-on a southbound 2000 Honda driven by a 50-year-old woman.

The driver of the Honda received minor injuries and was taken Code Green to Wesley Medical Center. She was treated for her injuries and is expected to be released. The man driving the 1991 Buick was taken to Via Christi St. Francis in Code Red condition. He was later pronounced deceased at 1:43pm.

Detectives in the Accident Followup Unit are working to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The name of the deceased is being withheld until his family can be notified.
