April 2--Wichita police are focusing their investigation
into a serial killer known as B-T-K on the 1974 strangulation of
four family members.
Lieutenant Ken Landwehr says since this was the first in a
string of homicides related to B-T-K, police believe it has special
significance.
Four members of the Otero family were killed January 15th, 1974.
They were discovered by the three surviving Otero children when
they returned home from school.
Police are asking for anyone with information about the Otero
case to call the tip line at 316-263-0138. The tip line is open from 8 to 5 monday through Friday. After hours, you can call crimestoppers at 267-2111. Police have received more than 1,500 tips from the public.
The B-T-K strangler sent his last letter to authorities in the
1980s. But a new letter has since surfaced and there are fears he
may strike again. Police believe he killed seven people in Wichita
in the '70s.
KAKE News will air a special report, "BTK Back: The Killer Returns", tonight at 6:30.
