Palin's Lawyer: No Legal Troubles Driving Her Out

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's lawyer says there is no legal issue compelling her to resign.
Attorney Thomas Van Flein said in an interview with The Associated Press there are no legal proceedings against the governor, and he would be the person in position to know.
Palin's sudden announcement Friday that she would resign at the end of the month has fueled speculation about motives. The FBI took the unusual step in announcing it was not investigating Palin.
Van Flein says Palin simply felt she has become too much of a lightning rod for partisan politics in Alaska, and it was in the best interest of the state for her to resign. That's scheduled to happen July 26, when Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will succeed her.
