People are packing area fireworks tents to buy their Fourth of July stash.
Nick Corona said he knows popular fireworks quickly fly off the shelves, so today he's planning ahead and buying his stash before they're all sold out.
"They just opened, so we came to get the good ones before they're gone," Corona said.
Another customer, Yussuf Ali, is looking to start his stash and says he's buying a little bit of everything. He wants to give his daughter a good show.
"We really like the smoke balls," Ali said.
Even though setting off fireworks and lighting sparklers is a lot of fun for adults and children alike, accidents will inevitably happen.
Lt. Joe Evans, a Fire Investigator for the city of Wichita, said this is always a busy time of year for them. He reminds people about all the precautions they should take to ensure their safety.
Evans says to:
- Always have a bucket of water nearby
- Never re-light a "dud"
- Only shoot one firework off at a time
- Adults should always be supervising children
- Do not drink alcohol while using fireworks
- Shoot the fireworks where you buy them
"Just use common sense," said Evans. "If you use common sense you shouldn't have a problem," he said.
In the coming days as people buy and start setting off fireworks, Evans just reminds people to be safe. It is possible he says to have fun and be safe at the same time.
