An inmate was found dead Monday after apparently committing suicide at the New Century Detention Center.
The Johnson County Sheriff's office said in a news release that a deputy found 37-year-old Darrell Morrison of Kansas City, Kan., hanging in his cell early Monday. Jail employees attempted lifesaving efforts but Morrison was pronounced dead.
Morrison had been in custody since May 16, 2007 on charges of aggravated criminal sodomy with a child. He had been scheduled for another court appearance Monday.
It was the ninth suicide in the Johnson County jail system since 1988.
