December 10 - A train derailment leaves behind a big mess with miles of track damaged. Despite the major repairs needed, authorities say the derailment could have been much worse. It happened late Saturday night just outside of Tampa in Marion County.

The 72-car train was traveling between Ramona and Tampa when a journal broke, sending several cars off the tracks and onto the rails. The train kept going, damaging ten miles of track along the way before officials even knew what was happening.

There were concerns about a possible chemical leak because one of the cars was punctured by a piece of iron. However, investigators say the the tank did not break and no chemicals leaked. No one was hurt.

Officials say it will take at least two days to repair the ten miles of track damaged in the derailment. The Union Pacific trains are being re-routed until the repairs can be completed. The train that derailed has been rebuilt and is now continuing on its way to Austin, Texas.
