... Furthermore most of the accidents is from the speed limits them selves because they are not consistent and have too much variation and construction for no necessary reason. The speed limit on Kellogg goes from 60 to 65 to 30 to 45 and when there's construction it's 50. Take the Autobahn for example. They don't have any varying speeds and minimal construction. Faster people can move as fast as they want on the left and slow people move as slow as 36mph on the right and their accident rates are really low because the people can govern themselves. Other than the Kellogg beautification from I35 to Hillside, they're wasting citizen tax dollars on useless projects. They're not adding another lane, not making new highways, not reconstructing on and off ramps to reduce bottlenecking, nothing. Just repaving whats already there. The city IMO needs to use their HEADS and get off their high horses for just 2 minutes and think about what this city really needs and what it can be without

IMO I think the cameras are a good and bad idea for the city. Good for reasons concerning traffic tie up and what not, though I believe the reasoning of "telling EMS and Fire "where" to go" is just an excuse to get the citizens to tolerate the idea of cameras watching over. Bad because IMO it is an invasion of privacy and I'm willing to bet the city is going to blow its cover of just a "traffic camera" to space and beyond once there is a crime involving a vehicle that passes one of these little cameras. Then, you will see the true potential these cameras have. I also agree with Don. Wichita PD refuses to put cameras in their cars because most of the PD force is corrupt, but use the excuse of them having no money, ha. But they can afford to install these cameras which are more expensive then a little dash mount camera would be...

Faithfender, I believe Pat is refering to England in his comment (he did say a while back, not yesterday). In England, especially London, every square foot has a camera watching. As far as your "spy movie" part of your comment, you're wrong. There are cameras in space that would really blow your mind

OK, I'll bite. Um, that country was called England and it was recent in the scheme of things; how do you think Washington or Franklin would react to the state of the union today, hmmm? Nobody's paranoid here, please check your facts before judging others who genuinely care; the money came from the Department of Homeland Security and cities all over the US are being inundated with these devices. And check once again, the video you saw didn't show half the capabilities of these cameras. Mark my words; soon these cameras are coming to your street corner to monitor "traffic".

I'll be sure to extend my middle finger at each of the camera's!!

Pat, are you serious? It's hard to take your comment seriously without laughing. For one, what country did we just recently declare ourselves independent from? Two, they're traffic cameras for crying out loud!!! They're to watch PUBLIC TRAFFIC. Hello. They're not to look into your bedroom or even your backyard. Those cameras in the story are barely capable of distinguishing the makes and colors of cars from much of a distance. They're not that sophisticated. Only in some spy movie are the cameras so powerful they can see the pores on your skin from some satellite. Let's not be paranoid.

I got a great Idea to help with the congestion and it saves money to boot. Finish the road work, don't try to fix what isn't broken and enforce the speed limit. All the contruction on every damn street and highway in and around Wichita causes almost all of the "congestion". Speeders racing up to the "congestion" and slamming on their brakes causes the accidents. And for some ungodly reason Wichitans have not figured out what a weave lane is for, or how to let other people on to the highway. Hey Wichita wake up and learn how to drive. And someone should do something about those idiot drivers in Andover too. Yes, they are mostly teens but you have to fix the problem before they turn into adults.

The city will fund traffic cameras but not cammeras in squad cars to stop police abuse. Good going council.

Computers are helping with everything now a days.

If it wasn't to eavesdrop on us then why is the money coming from the DHS? This country is starting to look a lot like the one we declared our independence from a while back, and some of us don't like it. Did they ask me if it was OK to install traffic cameras either?
