Leroy Spitzer and his wife have lived across the street from the College Hill United Methodist Church for 30 years. Saturday, they don't know what to expect.

"I'd like to see it go as smooth as can be," said Leroy Spitzer.

Funeral services for Wichita abortion provider Dr. George Tiller are set for 10:00 Saturday morning at the church. On Thursday, Wichita Police visited with neighbors about what could happen.

"They were around here all morning marking the streets," said neighbor John Gayer.

Across the street from Gayer's home is a yellow stripe painted on the curb. Police told Gayer and his neighbors protesters might be outside the church Saturday morning.

"I'll probably keep my kids inside," said Jon Eaton. "I won't be able to keep myself from looking out, but I'll just watch the crowd."

Traffic could be a concern through the East Wichita neighborhood. The streets are narrow, and some only one-way. On a typical Sunday, Eaton says cars line the streets for blocks. He doesn't know what to expect on Saturday morning -- either in the way of traffic, or potential protesters.

"As long as everybody keeps out of my space, it'll be okay," Eaton said.

Supporters of Dr. Tiller are expected to arrive from all over the country, including members of the National Abortion Federation, of which the doctor was a member.

Opponents could also be present, along with plans by members of the Westboro Baptist Church to protest.

Wichita Police said information on security plans could be available as early as Friday morning. In the meantime, officers spent Thursday reassuring neighbors the funeral would be closely monitored by authorities.

"They said if we have any problems to call 911," said Mary Spitzer. "I think everything is going to be okay."
