Identity Theft Ring
KAKE News |
|
October 19 - A law enforcement sting uncovered an identity theft ring in western Kansas. 5 Mexican nationals have been indicted in the Dodge City scheme. So far three of them have been arrested for allegedly trying to sell American citizenship for less than $1,000.
Don Foster was heading to church with his wife when authorities raided his neighbor's home. Law enforcement officials say their sting operation started long before the raid. According to the U.S. Attorney's office, in August an undercover Garden City police officer bought a Social Security card and birth certificate from an illegal alien for $700. Further investigation is what led police to Foster's Dodge City neighborhood.
A search of the Dodge City home turned up 10 sets of fake IDs as well as computers, scanners, color printers and other pieces of equipment. U.S. Attorney's office representatives say it can be very easy to use that equipment to produce documents that will fool potential employers. Javier Vazquez, Bertha Vazquez and Virginia Vazquez are in custody on charges of making false documents, aiding and abetting and misusing a Social Security number. Authorities are still looking for two other suspects in connection with the case: Fernando Vazquez and Fernando Vazquez.
