On Friday, a computer worm at Via Christi Regional Medical Center infected over 1,000 personal computers. Hospital officials say they do not know exactly how the virus got into the hospital, but they think it came in through a modem.
Employees who turned on their personal computers were either locked out or warned with a message from their anti-virus protection program. The hospital had to take hundreds of computers off the network.
The virus did not hinder operations at Via Christi, but many employees had to conduct their work without the use of their computers. All of the computers were reconnected to the hospital network by the end of the night.
