September 21 - Running a marathon is a pretty impressive feat in itself, but running 50 marathons in 50 days is just plain amazing. One man is doing just that to promote a healthy message. Dean Karnazes is on a mission to get people in this country off the couch and into healthier lifestyles.

"We've really let our health slip and I'm trying to issue a wake up call to this country that we need to reclaim our health. Childhood obesity is an epidemic. Twenty-five million of our young are either overweight or obese. And we need to reverse that trend," Karnazes said.

Karnazes is spreading the word and selling some of his own books, Ultra Marathon Man: Confessions of an All Night Runner, as he attempts to run 50 marathons in 50 days in 50 states. Wichita is run number five. Karnazes says conditions Thursday were challenging because of the strong winds and heavy rain in the area.

Other runners join in along the path wherever he goes. Runner Kevin Allen says they sort of feed off each other's passion for running.

"I think a lot of the reason people like us want to run with him is because he understands why we have a passion for what we do. He really isn't nuts. He's just very passionate," Allen said.

Karnazes says it will take a lot of passion and stamina to accomplish something he even wonders at times is a mission impossible. His message of health is what keeps pushing him towards the finish line.
