A 4 year-old child is expected to be okay following a shooting Friday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m. police and Franklin County Sheriff's deputies responded to the report of a shooting at 1100 North Oak in Ottawa. When they arrived on scene they found a 4 year-old child with a gunshot wound to his upper leg.
An ambulance took the child to a Kansas City-area hospital for treatment. Ottawa Chief of Police Dennis Butler tells KAKE News that the child's injury is not life-threatening, but he did not have an update on the boy's condition.
Chief Butler says a gun has been recovered and they are interviewing an adult that was inside of the house. Butler says no one has been arrested, but the department is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
The chief says once completed, the case will be turned over to the Franklin County Attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed.
