Jail Supervisor Charged With Sexual Misconduct

August 30 - A high-ranking supervisor at a Kansas jail is charged with sexual misconduct with inmates. Lt. Barry Biglow jail made his first appearance in court on Wednesday. Biglow is one of three former high ranking supervisors at the Butler County Jail at the center of a sex scandal investigation.

The investigation began several weeks ago after a former inmate reported inappropriate sexual activity at the jail, including sexual misconduct between staff and inmates. According to the complaint, while Biglow was a lieutenant of the Butler County Detention Center he engaged in consensual lewd fondling or touching with two different inmates. Investigators are also looking into whether guards brought drugs and other contraband into the jail in exchange for sexual favors.

The Butler County District Attorney's office says Biglow is the only person to be charged in the case so far. Biglow was suspended with pay from the jail. Another detention supervisor was fired and the major in charge of the facility resigned.

The Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy says alleged incidents may have been going on for the past year and a half. Biglow is charged with alleged incidents from October 2005 through January 2006. Biglow's bond was set at $500,000. His next court date is set for September 18.
