Thursday the U.S. Supreme Court ruled public funds could be used for to subsidize education in religious schools through a voucher program.
The justices said parents would have to be given a wide range of choices including non-religious private schools. The ruling was made based on a Cleveland school voucher case.
Fay Netherton, a Wichita parent, says the voucher system will provide parents with choices for their children's education.
Wichita Deputy Superintendent Mark Evans disagrees. He says the new ruling is not good news for kids. Evans says he's concerned about the constitutionality of public money going to private and often times religious-based institutions and some students being excluded.
However, private school administrator Delia Barnett says a school voucher program will help public and private schools cooperate and meet needs of all students.
