Hacker Attack

August 9 - A handful of Kansas websites are invaded by an unknown group spreading anti-war propaganda. The hacker attack happened overnight Wednesday and sent a local website hosting company into a panic. The websites have all been fixed, but the hackers caused quite a headache with their pro-peace agenda.

Wrangler Baseball fans received an unexpected and perhaps unpleasant surprise as they checked out the team's website Wednesday morning. Instead of game stats they found the hackers' message. Residents ready to plan their trip to the Kansas State Fair on the annual event's website found the same thing. The hackers didn't stop there. They also attacked Cero's Candies page and the DUI Victim Center for Kansas. While listening to Middle Eastern music, anti war messaged popped up. The page reads "For Palestinian and Lebanese Children. No War. No Israel. We're in the service of the great Turkish nation." It's a message Netvision Technologies did not expect to see on the home pages of around 6 to 10 of the 50 sites on its server.

The hacking started around 11pm Tuesday night. The sites were fixed by 4:30am. The hackers then struck again. The sites were restored to normal by 7am. Although the website strikes in Kansas happened almost at once, our state wasn't alone. Anti-Israel hackers have taken over other business sites throughout the country. While hackers can be annoying, they don't pose a serious threat. No confidential information could be taken during the hack because they only had access to the home pages of each business.
