A former Lawrence police officer is co-author of a book about President John F. Kennedy's assassination.

Brian Edwards says he never believed gunman Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole person responsible for the killing. The book, "Beyond the Fence Line," tells the story of one of the eyewitnesses.

The publication coincides with the anniversary of Kennedy's assassination. It happened 45 years ago on Nov. 22 in Dallas.

Edwards wrote the book with Marysville teacher Casey J. Quinlan. It focuses on the accounts of eyewitness Ed Hoffman, who can't hear or speak.

Hoffman's story has been largely ignored for years because of his difficulty communicating. But his experience is explained in-depth in the 233-page book.

I don't think that we will ever fully understand who was behind the assination, for too many were involved, many not knowing others were involved. Many people wanted Kennedy gone both from inside the government and outside of it. I have read much, viewed many different video's, gone to museums, visited the site a number of times and listened to different speakers. Because I was in Korea with the Army I had only limited knowledge of the shooting. One of the things I could never understand. I don't recall ever being put on alert or restricted to base. Seems unusual for the shooting of a President. After returning home and seeing the crime scene I also wondered why, if Oswald was the shooter, he did not shoot when the target was coming at him. He waited till the target was going down hill, away from him on a curve. An ambush ? The shot in the back was with a small caliper bullet, but my belief the head shot was with a much larger one, possibly a Dumb-Dumb bullet.
