Around 8:30 this morning, two brothers and a son from Wichita were Pheasant hunting on public ground at Woodberry and Illinois in eastern Reno County.

Fifty-four-year old Edwin Lee Johnson Sr. was hunting with his 20-year-old son, Edwin Jr., and his brother, 53-year-old David Johnson.

A pheasant took flight and Edwin Sr. shot at it, not realizing his brother David had moved in from his left side. The #6 birdshot struck David in the side of his head, neck and shoulder.

He was approx 40 feet away when shot.

David was flown to Wichita St Francis Hospital by Lifeteam in serious condition because of the pellets being inbedded and the location of the injuries.

He was conscious, alert and talking to emergency responders.

He has since been upgraded to good condition.
