The Internal Revenue Service is reminding taxpayers who did not receive their economic stimulus check, that they only have until Nov. 28 to update their address to get the payment this year.

Attached above is the list of Kansas taxpayers who did not receive their checks.

More than 3,700 economic stimulus checks from Missouri, averaging $550, and almost 2,000 economic stimulus checks from Kansas, averaging $577, were returned by the U.S. Postal Service due to mailing address errors.

“It is crucial that taxpayers who may be due a stimulus check update their addresses with the IRS by Nov. 28, 2008,” said IRS spokesperson Michael Devine. “By law, economic stimulus checks must be sent out by Dec. 31 of this year.”

Nationally, the IRS has been looking for more than 279,000 taxpayers who are missing economic stimulus checks totaling about $163 million.

Just go to the IRS website and click “Where’s My Stimulus Payment?" “It is the quickest and easiest way for a taxpayer to check the status of a stimulus check and receive instructions on how to update their address,” said Devine.

Taxpayers without access to the Internet can call the IRS Economic Stimulus Payment Hotline at (866) 234–2942. It is an automated tool available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Anyone who does not receive their economic stimulus payment before Dec. 31, will have to file a 2008 tax return and request the Recovery Rebate Credit. This credit is figured like last year’s economic stimulus payment, except that the amounts are based on tax year 2008 instead of tax year 2007.

Devine said those who will be eligible for a Recovery Rebate Credit include:

* Families who gained a qualifying child or an additional qualified child by birth, adoption, etc, during 2008
* An individual who was otherwise eligible based on his/her 2007 tax return but who could be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2007 tax return and therefore received no ESP and who is eligible based on his/her 2008 tax return and cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2008 tax return.
* Someone who received less than the maximum stimulus payment ($600 individual/$1,200 married filing joint) during 2008 because their 2007 income was too high or too low, and their 2008 income has changed.
* Someone who did not file a 2007 tax return by Oct. 15, 1008

Taxpayers who have moved can ensure the IRS has their correct address by filing Form 8822, Change of Address, with the IRS. The form is available at www.irs.gov or by calling 1-800-829-3676.

I need a bailout. Can't pay my electric, gas, rent, or car payment this month. What really stresses me out is that I don't know how I'm going to keep my membership to Tall Grass CC if the government doesn't bail me out.
