A Salina woman must begin serving a 30-day jail term by the end of the week unless she pays more than $25,000 in restitution for fraudulent health insurance claims.
District Judge Patrick Thompson on Monday sentenced Cindy Chambers, who pleaded guilty in July to felony theft by deception. She was also sentenced to two years of supervised probation. If she fails to complete the terms of her probation, she faces a year in prison.
While employed at a pharmacy, the 46-year-old Chambers created dozens of phony receipts for medications and submitted them to her health insurance company, Caremark Corp., for reimbursement.
Chambers was charged with creating at least 35 false receipts for medications in her name and in the names of her two children.
