The Highway Patrol confirms a small plane crashed near the Stafford Airport in Stafford County Sunday. The single-engine prop plane went down south of Highway 50, about a quarter mile south of the airport, according to a KHP Spokesperson.

Two people were onboard the plane when it reportedly lost power. The spokesperson says witnesses are reporting that the plane didn't have enough power during takeoff and came back down very quickly after lifting off.

Both the pilot and a passenger escaped serious injury.
