The head of the Kansas Lottery says that despite rumors to the contrary, Harrah's Entertainment Inc. hasn't said whether it plans to withdraw as the operator of a state-owned casino in Sumner County.

Ed Van Petten said Friday he's heard the rumors, but Harrah's has not notified the Lottery of any plans to pull out. He said the Lottery would have to be notified because it owns the gambling and signed the operating contract with Harrah's.

For its part, Harrah's spokeswoman Jacqueline Peterson said the casino company doesn't comment on rumors.

Harrah's is among three casinos awaiting final approval next month by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.
